Give Time

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Sister Carmen. Every hour donated—whether stocking shelves, welcoming families, supporting classes, or helping at special events—strengthens our ability to serve the community with dignity and care. Giving time is just as meaningful as giving money or food; it’s a gift that makes our programs possible and ensures families receive the support they need right when they need it. Our volunteers bring compassion, energy, and hope into our building every day, and we couldn’t do this work without them.

Why Volunteering Matters

Volunteers bring dignity, comfort, and strength to families in ways that go far beyond the services themselves. Whether someone is greeting participants with kindness, stocking shelves with care, tending the garden that grows fresh produce, or organizing behind the scenes to support staff, every role makes a meaningful difference. These everyday acts create an environment where families feel respected, supported, and truly seen. Volunteers don’t just help us run programs—they help families feel grounded, valued, and connected to their community.

Choose Your Volunteer Pathway

Based on your needs, we’ll guide you to the right program:

Regular Volunteering

Apply, attend an orientation, and complete a background check. You’ll join our amazing team of ongoing volunteers.

One-Day Pass

Just helping out for a single shift? You can request a one-day pass instead of applying for a regular volunteer role.

Group Volunteering

Want to bring your workplace, club, or community group? We’d love to host you! Let us know your group size, interests, and preferred date(s).

Youth Volunteering
(Under 18—Not Court Ordered)

Youth under 18 can join our Youth Volunteer Program. Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. An online orientation is required alongside a waiver signed by both the youth and parent/guardian.

Court-Ordered
Community Service

This program has a separate process. Please indicate this option on the form so we can connect you to the right staff member. Youth needing hours for court-ordered community service must be accompanied by an adult if they are under the age of 16.

Volunteer Opportunities

Front Office

Volunteers at the front desk are the friendly first point of contact for visitors and callers. They greet families, answer phones, schedule appointments, and help staff behind the scenes. It’s a welcome role for people who enjoy organizing and connecting with others.

Food Bank

Our Food Bank team supports families directly by sorting and stocking donated goods, assisting shoppers, and maintaining a dignified self-choice model. Ideal for those who like staying active and working alongside a team to meet real needs.

Garden

Volunteers in the Garden help grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs that feed the community. Tasks include planting, weeding, harvesting, and composting — a great fit for people who like working outdoors and seeing tangible results.

Thrift Store

At the Thrift Store, volunteers help keep our social-enterprise running smoothly by greeting donors and shoppers, sorting items, and organizing displays. Every shift helps fund our programs while creating a welcoming place for families and bargain-hunters alike.
