Healthy Living
Building Health, Confidence, and Community Together
At Sister Carmen Community Center, we know that good health starts with access to nutritious food, movement, and practical knowledge. Local families face challenges every day, from making sure meals are balanced to finding ways to stay active and care for themselves. Our Healthy Living programs provide support, education, and hands-on opportunities so everyone can feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in caring for themselves and their families.
Cooking and Nutrition Classes
Our cooking and nutrition classes give families the skills and confidence to prepare healthy meals at home. We celebrate the diversity of our community with inclusive classes open to everyone, featuring a variety of cultural meals and traditions. Classes are welcoming, practical, and designed to fit into daily life. Check our calendar, Facebook, or Instagram for upcoming times, and to register.
Exercise Classes
Movement is for everyone, and our exercise classes offer options for all ages and abilities. Participants can build strength, boost energy, and reduce stress in a supportive, encouraging environment. Current offerings include Zumba and Yoga, with classes designed to be fun, welcoming, and accessible. Classes are free, open to everyone in the community, and drop-in friendly. If you need child care to attend, please call 303-665-4342 to let us know in advance.
Community Garden
Our on-site garden provides fresh, organic produce and a space to connect with nature while learning about growing food. Visitors, including children and adults, are welcome from dawn until dusk during the garden season (April – October). Remember to respect the plants and animals, keep the gate closed, and only harvest produce if you have permission. The garden is a hands-on place to enjoy, learn, and share in the fruits of our community’s work.
Harm Reduction
We offer harm reduction items for community members experiencing substance abuse disorders. This allows individuals to make safer choices in their daily lives. We have educational materials and items that focus on reducing risk, providing guidance, and connecting people to the support and services they need. Participants are met with understanding, respect, and practical information to protect their health and well-being. If you need harm reduction items, please let our staff know—our food bank offers these items, when available, and they can be picked up during regular shopping hours (see our Food Bank page for details).
Reproductive Health Supplies
Sister Carmen provides sexual health supplies and educational materials to ensure that all members of our community have access to the resources they need to stay informed and safe. We approach these services with privacy, respect, and a focus on empowering individuals to make choices that support their health. If you are in need of reproductive health supplies, please let our staff know—our food bank offers these items, when available, and they can be picked up during regular shopping hours (see our Food Bank page for details).
