“When you look in your purse and only have $5 to last the whole week, your perspective changes. I appreciate the small things much more. Food. Eating.”
-Nina, SCCC Participant

Making an online contribution is a fast and secure way to support families in our community through a tax-deductible donation. Sister Carmen Community Center (SCCC) uses the DonorPerfect donation platform for online gifts because it’s tailored to our needs as a nonprofit and helps keep our costs low. If you choose to cover the small transaction fee, then 100% of your donation goes directly to SCCC. By giving to SCCC through DonorPerfect you have the flexibility to set up a regular monthly donation, make an honorary gift, or even keep your gift anonymous. Give online now by clicking here.

Looking for our ColoradoGives.org link? We no longer use Colorado Gives as our primary online donation platform, but if you already have a recurring donation set up, we will still receive your gift. We also use ColoradoGives.org for our annual Colorado Gives Day campaign in December. Questions? Contact kristen@sistercarmen.org.

A Friend of Sister Carmen is an individual who gives $1,000 or more a year! Although gifts of all sizes are important, donating at this level and ongoing makes a significant impact to the Sister Carmen, allowing us to serve more families, create programs where we see need, and ensure our sustainability long-term.

Friends of Sister Carmen receive special benefits throughout the year including special events, Coffee Chats with staff, and insider communications. But the biggest reward is knowing what a huge difference you’ve made in your very own community! Give online now by clicking here.

Traditional IRA Contribution:

If you are 70 ½ years old or older, you can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income taxes on your gift. SCCC is a Qualified Charity to receive an IRA rollover or Qualified Charitable Distributions. This may be a great way to meet all or part of your IRA’s required minimum distribution (RMD), while also helping families in your community! Please consult your tax advisor or financial planner to determine the best options for you.

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs):

A donor advised fund is like a personal charitable investment account that donors can establish at a community foundation, such as Community Foundation of Boulder County or the Denver Foundation, or at a financial institution, such as Fidelity or Schwab. A DAF allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate income tax deduction, and over time recommend grants from the fund to qualified nonprofits, such as SCCC.

If you’re interested in holding a fundraiser on behalf of Sister Carmen, please contact Kristen, Director of Development at 303-665-4342 or kristen@sistercarmen.org.

We’re happy to supply you with our approved logos, language for promotional materials, and offer advice and support about how to proceed.

Kids who give

Kids who give

Here at SCCC, we see many parents and children volunteering, and giving, together! Kids donating to SCCC have come up with some fun ideas to fundraise for those in need including bake sales, lemonade stands, making and selling arts and crafts for the holiday season, or collecting donations through clubs or sports teams. When kids give a monetary donation, we award them with a special certificate to recognize their hard work.

Does your child have a monetary gift? Let us know and we’ll send a special certificate! Contact kristen@sistercarmen.org for more info.

donate an old car

Consider donating an old car

Instead of selling, trading or storing your automobile, you can make a donation and receive a tax deduction through our partnership with Cars Helping Charities.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Absolutely. SCCC is a 501c3 tax-exempt charitable organization. Our TAX ID/EIN is 84-0820308. For gifts made online, please keep your email receipt from ColoradoGives.org as your official record to claim your donation as a deduction on your taxes. For gifts made offline, be sure to provide us a mailing address, and you will receive a donation receipt by mail.

How does SCCC use their funds? Where does it go?

As a designated 501c3 charitable organization, SCCC is required to publicly report all of our financials. Please visit our Accountability page to read our most recent Annual Reports and audited financials.

Can I make a gift in honor or memory of someone?

Giving in honor or memory of a loved one is a great way to show your appreciation and respect for the causes close to their heart. When you make a gift online, select the “I would like to dedicate this donation” checkbox and fill out the additional details. If you select the option, SCCC will send a notification to the person of your choice, notifying them that a gift has been made in their honor or in memory of a loved one.

Can I donate food?

Of course! Learn more here.

Can I donate clothing, household goods, or furniture?

Yes, we can accept items such as these at our Thrift Store. Learn more here.

Can I donate to a specific program?

Yes, you may always designate a gift for a specific program. However, we encourage donors to give unrestricted gifts toward our General Operating income. Otherwise, we can sometimes have extra donations toward a program that’s already paid for and not enough to a program that really needs it. We also need funds to pay for expenses like our building, daily operations, and staff. By giving unrestricted gifts, it allows us–as a trusted local nonprofit–to use the funds where they would have the most impact.

Can I donate toys to children during the holidays?

During the holiday season we focus our efforts on basic needs such as food and direct financial assistance for housing and utilities. Families can also shop at our Thrift Store for affordable gifts and are sometimes given free shopping vouchers if they are in need. If you’d like to participate in a toy specific program, we work with several partner organizations who collect and give gifts to children including: Santa Cop by the Lafayette Police Department, Share-A-Gift which gives toys to low-income families of the Boulder Valley School District, and Logan’s Christmas Shoppe through Ascent Community Church.

If I lose my tax receipt. Can I get a replacement?

If you made an in-kind gift to the Food Bank or Thrift Store, and filled out a donation receipt at the time, then we should have your gift information on file and will be able to send you a copy of your receipt. If you made the donation anonymously (didn’t fill out a receipt for us), then we will not be able to do so. If you made a monetary donation through our website or by check, you should have received a thank you/acknowledgement letter within a week or two of your donation, but we can send you a replacement if you misplaced your copy. Please call 303-665-4342 or email Domenic@sistercarmen.org for a new letter. For gifts made through the Colorado Gives platform visit their site and contact them for a lost receipt here.

Who can I contact about updating my personal information? (i.e. mailing address, email, phone number, joining or being removed from mailing list)

For any updates or mistakes regarding your personal information, please contact our Development Associate, Domenic, at Domenic@sistercarmen.org.

Does SCCC qualify for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Credit?

Although your gift does support families and children, we unfortunately do not qualify for this tax credit.
